Music from Cape Verde
Cape Verde lies 350 miles off the west coast of Africa. Colonized bythe Portuguese in the 1400s, the islands became a key outpost in theslave trade – and were the last many saw of Africa before being shippedoff to the Americas. It's no wonder, then, that Portugal's fado morphedinto Cape Verde's morna, a style that, like fado, is focused on"sodade," or longing. For such a small system of islands, Cape Verdehas had a deep impact on the world music scene. Musicians there keepequally close ties with Lisbon and Paris, and many have exported theirtalents and become stars.
Cesaria Evora is the world's foremost singer of the morna, the indigenous style of Africa's Cape Verde Islands. The morna evolved as a hybrid of Portuguese fados,British sea shanties, and African rhythm, reflecting the island'shistory as a Portuguese colony and spot for British coal mining. Somesay it was also influenced by the modinha, a Brazilian song form. Full of mournful melodies and slow tempos, Evora's music encapsulates the essence of the morna in its sadness, longing, and nostalgia. Her latest outing, Cafe Atlantico,finds her in a slightly less somber, more cabaret-tinged setting,complete with string and horn sections, a troupe of backup singers, andseveral percussionists. Evora's voice soars above this festive mix,retaining the sodade, or yearning, that runs deep within her music.

Victor Brox
Victor Brox (born, 19??) is a blues musician from Manchester, England, widely believed to have been described by both Jimi Hendrix and Tina Turner as their favourite white blues singer. Brox plays a variety of instruments including horns, keyboards and guitar, as well as performing vocals. Though continuing to perform with the Victor Brox Blues Train, he is most widely known for his performance as Caiaphas on the original recording of Jesus Christ Superstar (1970) and for his collaborations. He has worked with: Eric Clapton, Hendrix, Ritchie Blackmore and Ian Gillan of Deep Purple, Charlie Mingus, Memphis Slim, Dr. John, Aynsley Dunbar, Graham Bond, Alexis Korner, John Mayall, Country Joe Macdonald and Keith Moon.
He appeared as a "look-alike" of Leonardo da Vinci in the motion picture Ever After (1998).
His daughter Kyla Brox is also a blues musician.

Designer David Portela Reinterprets The Citroen 2CV

French designer David Portelareleased some new CG images of his proposal for the redesign of theiconic Citroen 2CV. The original economy car had one of the longestproduction runs of any automotive model (spanning from 1949-1990).Portela took ques from the original grill, floating headlights, andfenders and merged them with a more avant-gardist silhouette. A elegantbut somewhat still low frills polished metal finish looks like it camestraight from a classic jet aircraft.
Citroen has been toying with bringing back the 2CVin a modern updated form. Some images have been circulating around theinternet and speculation of a concept unveiling in 2009 has beensuggested. With interest in small cars surging, it just might be thesignal of another long run for the "tin snail".
